Explore Bundaberg with Care Hire
Bundaberg is known as the 'Southern Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef'. It's a fantastic place to start a journey along the northern coast or as a destination all on its own.
As a coastal town it naturally has fantastic beaches popular with both locals and tourists. Unlike many other towns however, it also boasts the chance to get up close with nature. At the Mon Repos turtle rookery you can see turtles heading to the beach to lay their eggs and the little hatchlings making their way back into the ocean.
At the southern end of the Bargara esplanade you can freely take bread to feed tropical fish. There's also a colony of flying foxes on the northern bank of the Burnett River.
Take a tour of the Bundaberg Rum distillery, in operation since 1888. It's a great way to learn about the history and production of an iconic Australian beverage - complete with tastings!
Another classic Australian drink is made in Bundaberg - ginger beer. The Bundaberg Barrel, home to Bundaberg Brewed Drinks, has an interactive museum as well as tastings.
Explore Bundaberg's heritage buildings (particularly along Bourbong St) and its surrounding National Parks. For something a little different, take a short drive out of town to see the Mystery Craters, 35 unexplained water-filled holes in the ground plus an equally inexplicable dinosaur statue.
